April 10th, 2002…Burbank, CA…The Colony Theatre Company is very proud to present the first production of its 2002 - 2003 “Season of Discovery,” the Los Angeles premiere of THE LARAMIE PROJECT written by Moisés Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project. THE LARAMIE PROJECT will be directed by Garland Award-winner Nick DeGruccio (SIDE SHOW, West Coast Premiere of PUTTING IT TOGETHER). THE LARAMIE PROJECT will open on Saturday, June 1st and continue through Sunday, June 30th at the Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) in the heart of the Burbank Media Center. Hailed by Time Magazine as one of the “Top Ten Plays of the Year 2000,” THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a thought provoking, critically acclaimed and emotionally riveting theatre experience of a small town at the epicenter of an incomprehensible crime. It has been called “an OUR TOWN for the new millennium.” New York Magazine hailed THE LARAMIE PROJECT as “Nothing short of stunning!” Barbara Beckley, Producing Director of the Colony Theatre comments, “We are especially proud to open our 2002-2003 season with this important and timely work. Moisés Kaufman has asked the question: ‘Is theatre a medium that can contribute to the national dialogue on current events?’ After seeing THE LARAMIE PROJECT, there is no doubt in my mind that the answer is yes it can, and yes it has. At the same time, its themes are so universal it will live forever, just like OUR TOWN.” Nick DeGruccio has directed some of the Colony Theatre’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions including, most recently, the Southern California premiere of SIDE SHOW. He also directed the West Coast premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s PUTTING IT TOGETHER, which received multiple Ovation nominations and a Backstage West Garland award for Best Musical, and he co-directed CITY OF ANGELS which won the Theatre L.A. Ovation Award for Best Musical. Performances will be Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 3:00pm and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. Ticket prices are Friday and Sunday evenings $25 ($22 for Students and Seniors); Saturday and Sunday matinees $28 ($25 for Students and Seniors); Saturday evenings all seats $31.
