“I thought you were supposed
to be a detective…”
September 30, 2003…Burbank, CA…Taking a page from the motion picture world, much of which is located in Burbank, The Colony Theatre Company announces a VERY special offer to the residents of Los Angeles, a FREE “Sneak Preview” performance of their latest production, the killer musical, GUNMETAL BLUES. This special “Sneak Preview” performance is to welcome and introduce residents of Los Angeles County to The Colony and its state-of-the-art theatre in Burbank. A wine and cheese mixer with representatives of the theatre will immediately follow the preview performance. Ticket reservations will be taken on a first call, first seated basis while tickets last (limit 4 tickets per party). The free ticket offer is only for persons who have never purchased a ticket or subscription from the Colony in the past.
GUNMETAL BLUES will continue to preview on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th and will open on Saturday, October 18th and continue through Sunday, November 16th at the Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) in the heart of the Burbank Media Center.
GUNMETAL BLUES features a hot blonde, a private dick, a jazzy score and…a murder. Sam Galahad, a down-and-out detective, has been hired to find Jennifer, the daughter of the recently deceased millionaire Adrian Wasp. When a mysterious dame waltzes into Sam’s office and shows him Jennifer Wasp’s photo, Sam’s heart does a drum solo…“Forget about ships, this face could launch a thousand rockets. She had hair the color of moonlight on topaz and a mouth that could send Shakespeare thumbing through a thesaurus.” As Sam starts digging deeper into Jennifer’s disappearance and the Wasp suicide case, he soon finds himself getting in too deep, but will he be able to solve the mystery that is at once elusive and right in front of his face or will his heart stand in the way?
GUNMETAL BLUES is a musical in the tradition of Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler and is an homage to the art of theatrical storytelling. All of the characters are played by three actors who sing a score that the New Yorker raved is “sophisticated…sometimes rousing, sometimes sentimental, and always delicious. GUNMETAL BLUES is a thinking man’s CITY OF ANGELS.”
Barbara Beckley, Producing Director of the Colony Theatre comments, “We thought this would be a terrific way to introduce our theatre to people who may not have been here before. We wanted to show off our gorgeous space with this wonderful show and what better way to give back to our neighbors than by offering them a free preview performance of this production. We believe that once people see our beautiful home and the quality of work we do here, they will be patrons for life. This just seemed like the right time and the right show to be able to make such an offer.”
Andrew Barnicle is the Artistic Director of the Laguna Playhouse, a position he has held since July of 1991.
