January
14th, 2002…Burbank, CA…The Colony Theatre Company is proud to announce
a special performance of the Los Angeles premiere of FUDDY MEERS,
written by acclaimed playwright David Lindsay-Abaire (KIMBERLY AKIMBO,
WONDER OF THE WORLD) to benefit the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF BURBANK on
Friday, February 7th with 7:00pm Hor D'oeuvres, no-host bar and raffle
followed at 8:00pm by a performance of the show. Ticket s for this
special benefit performance are $50.00 (partially tax-deductible) and
available by calling 818/842-9333. FUDDY MEERS will be directed by
L.A. Weekly Award-winner David Rose (OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD, THE LIVING).
FUDDY MEERS will open on Saturday, February 8th and continue through
Sunday, March 9th at the Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at
Cypress) in the heart of the Burbank Media Center.
FUDDY MEERS is the hilarious Off-Broadway smash-hit comedy that
launched the career of playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. FUDDY MEERS is
a roller coaster ride of a show which tells the story of Claire, an
amnesiac who awakens each morning not knowing anything about who or
where she is and ends up being kidnapped by one husband and pursued by
another. But what do they want and who really loves her? The
kaleidoscopic action, like a distorted fun-house mirror the title
refers to, keeps the audience following the ever-increasing mayhem.
There's the too-good-to-be-true husband, a lisping, limping stranger,
Claire's pot-smoking teenage son, a tough lady cop (or is she?), a
schizoid with a potty-mouthed puppet, and Claire's mother‚ the victim
of a stroke which affects her speech.
Barbara Beckley,
Producing Director of the Colony Theatre comments, "We are delighted to
be able to host a fundraiser for the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB of Burbank.
This will be a wonderful evening of food, libations and theatre. We
are also thrilled to be able to stage the Los Angeles premiere of this
very funny, yet insightful play by David Lindsay-Abaire. FUDDY MEERS
has not only been a smash-hit in New York, but in the rest of the
country as well. Our audiences are in for a riotous and at times
unexpected wild ride."
David Rose has directed some of the Colony Theatre's most
critically acclaimed and commercially successful productions including
its most recent production BEA[U]TIFUL IN THE EXTREME. Other shows
include: OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD, (6 Ovation Nominations, Drama-Logue
Award), THE FRONT PAGE (L.A. Weekly Award - Revival Production of the
Year), YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU (Drama-Logue Award) and PECCADILLO
(Drama-Logue Award), among others. He has also directed Justin
Tanner's BIG BEAR, THE LIVING, GENIUSES (Drama-Logue Award) and the
long-running cult hit ROAD TO NIRVANA, among many others. He was a
founding member of Washington D.C.'s acclaimed Woolly Mammoth ensemble,
and served as Artistic Director of the New York Comedy Repertory
