Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater Projects Grant

Great News!

We are proud to announce that The Colony Theatre Company has received a $25,000 grant from the Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater Projects, a nonprofit organization that supports new work for the American stage. We are so honored to be one of the first recipients during the first year of the group's Los Angeles Initiative (LAI), a funding program that provides season support to local companies that have demonstrated a commitment to producing new work.

Colony Producing Director Barbara Beckley reflected on the effect of a gift of this magnitude: "We are seeking out new material with renewed energy," she said. "It helps the playwrights grow in their careers, which is so important because so many of our talented writers who 30 years ago were writing for the theater are now writing screenplays and teleplays. And it's so important for our survival that good writers be encouraged to write for the theater."

Last season we produced the World Premiere Beautiful in the Extreme by Los Angeles playwright Leon Martell. The fascinating historical drama told the story of the Lewis & Clark expedition.

This season features another local playwright, Mark Saltzman, with the World Premiere of his play Clutter, The True Story of the Collyer Brothers Who Never Threw Anything Out, the true story of the Collyer Brothers, the most famous packrats in history.

We are delighted and thrilled to be able to continue our commitment to local playwrights and the generous grant from the A.S.K. Theater Project will enable us to continue to produce the works of emerging playwrights and help the Los Angeles audiences discover the powerful new voices of theatre.
