THE RECEPTION

One Night Only!

“Why a wedding?
One…to celebrate the union of the bride and groom!
Two…so everybody else can reflect on what’s wrong with their own relationships!”

September 10, 2003…Burbank, CA…The Colony Theatre Company is proud to announce a very special event - Fritz Coleman, performing his critically acclaimed show, THE RECEPTION as a benefit for the American Red Cross and for the Colony Theatre Company! Variety called THE RECEPTION,

“A devastatingly insightful and hilarious insider’s look at a family’s dynamics during an upscale wedding reception at Pasadena’s Ritz-Carlton hotel…a tour de force solo outing made even more powerful by the use of dead-on projected still images of the reception guests that constantly reinforce the veracity of Coleman’s jaundiced commentary!” The Los Angeles Times proclaimed THE RECEPTION is “a perfect fit for the sharp-witted Coleman…an ingenious conceit!” The LA Weekly said simply that “Appearing solo at a wedding is the perfect premise for Fritz Coleman’s acerbic observations about bumpy relations between the sexes.” THE RECEPTION will perform one night only, Saturday, September 20th at 8:00pm at the Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) in the heart of the Burbank Media Center.

Fritz Coleman, a long time stand-up comic, has been NBC4’s weathercaster on the weekday edition of “Channel 4 News” for the past 15 years. He joined NBC4 in February of 1983 as the weekend weathercaster, and moved to weekdays in 1985. Since then he has been seen at 4, 5, 6pm and 11pm, every day.

THE RECEPTION finds Coleman candidly narrating a wedding reception in which the guests reflect on every aspect of modern marital life. Fifteen characters are explored - beginning with the bride on her second marriage, and her groom on his third.

The characters include the bride’s mother, the mother’s current husband, her wealthy father, her younger sister - a divorced family therapist, her younger brother, and the younger brother’s same-sex companion. All of the skeletons - messy divorces, marital discord, Catholicism and matrimony, and wild behavior topped with escapades of drinking - come out of the closet.

Tickets for THE RECEPTION are $50 for the performance and $125 for the performance and a post-show RECEPTION with Fritz Coleman, catered by Arnie Morton’s - The Steakhouse. Tickets are available by calling the Colony Theatre Box office at 818/558-7000 or by visiting www.colonytheatre.org.
