Julie Keen (Costume Designer) is very excited that her original design for Moonlight and Magnolias has made its way to The Colony Theatre stage. Her design was originally produced for The Laguna Playhouse in 2009, and then reappeared at The La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Julie’s most recent design credits include Measure for Measure and Awake and Sing! for A Noise Within (Ovation Award nominee), and The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife and Steel Magnolias for La Mirada and McCoy Rigby Entertainment. Other designs for The Laguna Playhouse include The Sleeper, Many Happy Returns, The Constant Wife, Lovers at Versailles, Stella by Starlight, Shear Madness, and And the Winner Is. Her designs for the Playhouse Youth Theatre include Summer of the Swans, Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, and Sarah, Plain and Tall, and she has also designed three of The Playhouse’s educational touring shows: The Sign of the Beaver, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and Stuart Little. Other credits include Night of the Iguana, Arms and the Man, The Rainmaker, and Mourning Becomes Electra (all for A Noise Within); Three Viewings, The Interrogation of Nathan Hale, Faith Healer, Playland, and Lips Together, Teeth Apart (all for South Coast Repertory); Miss Nelson Is Missing (Lewis Family Playhouse), Bad Dates (Northlight Theatre), and Sizwe Bansi is Dead (Wisdom Bridge Theatre) in Chicago; The Gin Game and A Raisin in the Sun (TheatreVirginia); and Ring of Fire, King of the Moon, and Too Old for the Chorus (La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts).
Other professional credits include Assistant to the Costume Designer for the Tony-nominated national tour of Peter Pan, and projects at Center Theatre Group, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Washington Opera, and the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
