Al D'Andrea is a stage director, actor, and writer.
Los Angeles directing credits include Alex Dremann's Scream Into My Breasts, Margit Ahlin's The Creche, Louise Claps' The Break Room, and Beth Dement's Trashball. Al directed the acclaimed production of the musical The 1940's Radio Hour
for Musical Theatre Southwest in Albuquerque. He also assisted
playwright Peter Parnell in the final Mark Taper Forum workshop of his
stage adaptation of The Cider House Rules.
A native New Yorker, Al is former Artistic Director of Third Step
Theatre Company, a collective of New York theatre artists devoted to
new play development and production during the 80's and 90's. Selected
New York directing credits include Rick Balian's Temporary Lucidity,
a satire of American culture which played to sold-out houses at the
Edinburgh Fringe Festival after a successful New York run; the musical
romance The Christmas Bride; the absurdist-environmental musical The Elephant Piece; George Q, a contemporary musical retelling of Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene; and the New York premiere of Eugene Ionesco's The Killing Game.
Al played the title role in the New York premiere of Ionesco's Macbett.
For the Colony, Al directed Margit Ahlin's Climbing Everest, having been involved its development since its inception and appeared on stage as Paul Sears in June Moon, a variety of "plagued" characters in Anthony Clarvoe's The Living (L.A. Times "Critic's Choice"), Eddie in Lost In Yonkers, and the curmudgeon Horace Vandergelder in The Matchmaker, for which he received a Drama-Logue Performance Award.
TV credits include N.Y.P.D. Blue, Family Law, Profiler, Brooklyn South, Murder One, Tracey Takes On, and It's Like, You Know. Film credits include Temptation, Joey Petrone: TV Cop, and This Is Not All. Al wrotethe book to and directed the workshop production of the musical Mesmerized, the story of Anton Mesmer and his cure of the blind prodigy pianist Maria Theresa Paradies in 1777 Vienna.
Al is a member of Lincoln Center Directors Lab West, SSDC, AEA, SAG, and AFTRA.
